Corporate expectations from young leaders

Hello friends!

Let us discuss about the corporate expectations from the young leaders like you.

What do you think…what are the corporate demands?

Degrees?

Certificates?

High Percentage of Marks?

Additional Qualifications?

May be, but these are just eligibility criteria to open the door of opportunity…but sadly doesn’t ensure success…

Corporate needs results, you may be acceptable with less qualification with poor marks & without proper certification, but without results there is no chance. Even if you get selected because of your credentials, you will not be able to sustain if you do not provide the value that’s expected. On the other hand, if you can deliver and exceed the expectations of your managers, you can achieve tremendous success and will always be in demand!

For result, you need Positive Attitude which comes through gratitude. You should feel that you are so lucky because you have so many things for which so many people can only wish for or think about. You are living a life which may be or rather is a dream for millions of people in the world.

So be thankful to the divine for what you have and respect it.

Problems of your life are an important event. Surprised by the statement? Problems or failures or challenges happen to train you for the next level; to make you a better person; to teach you to be patient yet persistent.

Believe me that God or life or destiny gives you those problems only that you are capable of solving or facing. So do not break down in the face of adversity. Just stay positive (I know it takes an effort and is not easy) and take the situation as a challenge. Once you do that, your mind works in a positive direction and provides you ways to resolve an issue. People around you also get motivated by you as this attitude of staying positive is contagious.

Problem Solving Skills are most important for success in the corporate world. Rather than being a cribber who always complains and is a part of the problem, one must be a prudent solution provider and that is why companies hire people. Critical thinking helps in problem-solving. For the same, there is a step by step process:

  •   See the problems as an outsider
  •   Perceive problems as a challenge
  •   Note down all possible options
  •   Remove weak ones
  •   Apply the best over better

Planning Skills are the key to success in corporate world. In corporate world you have to work in a team and you may have some hierarchies and competition within and outside the organization. So, without good planning you cannot achieve your goals and make your way through. Also, since the resources are limited, planning is inevitable. It is rightly said:

Suggested steps for effective planning:

1. You need to gather as much information as you can. In the absence of information, you can’t make a good plan

2. Note down all the possible opportunities with expected outcome

3. Remove all the options which you must avoid.

4. Do SWOT analysis. This will involve resource availability as well.

5. Choose the best

6. Make flow chart for smooth execution

7. Review the plan

8. Go ahead with confidence

Do not start anything randomly whether it is your own business or you work for someone else.

Communication is again an extremely important skill to achieve success in the corporate world. It is said that the world’s most effective leaders had one trait in common – the power of communication! Communication is not just about speaking fluent English; it’s the way you deal with your clients; make a point; inspire your team; share your ideas and more.

It is really important what you communicate but it is equally or even more important that you have the sense of time (when to communicate), place (where you communicate) and person (who you communicate).

Team work is not only important; it’s mandatory for success in corporate world! The living legend, Mr Ratan Tata rightly quoted: If you want to walk fast, walk alone but if you want to walk far, walk together. Your understanding about your team is very important viz. their likes, dislikes, habits, potential, their motivational factors, knowledge, behavior, their emotional quotient etc. You must have listening skills, leadership qualities and your acceptance in your team is a must. You must be cheerful and helpful also, so that you can cheer and support your team in challenging situations.

You must have strong Leadership traits to lead your team. These are the times where inspirational leadership works well. You need to lead the team by examples instead of penalizing them on their mistakes. A Leader should be a good listener, a trainer, a performer, a sorted person, trust worthy and honest. Team must have faith in you. You are the captain of the ship after all!

Hope this provided an insight in to corporate expectations!

Note: MBA and PGDM programs from reputed institutes / B-Schools help inculcate above-discussed traits in students as such institutions work closely with the companies to understand their expectations and prevailing trends.

All the best!
